Silent Hills concept trailer revealed at TGS 2014!
Wtf am I watching??
Some of the visual trickery is clever. I liked the door at the end best.
It’s not scary though. The more over-the-top and overt you get in horror, the more you cross towards schlock. I love schlock, but bug-vomiting severed heads and naked ladies being face-fucked by giant dildo-headed monsters aren’t really the subtle psychological horror that is Silent Hill. It does look fun, but it doesn’t look filthy and horrifying and Silent Hillish. PT didn’t either, though again PT had its own charm. It was innovative and nice to look at and full of good ideas, it just wasn’t scary or Silent Hillish.
I just wish they’d started a new IP :/
Silent Hill is moving away from clever, subtle psych-horror to just overdoing the scary giant monsters and bloody walls. I haven’t been brave enough to pick up one of the original SHs but I’ve watched walkthroughs, and the tiniest detail that can be related or unrelated to the plot can just send me shivering. That cat in the locker in SH1 totally made me jump. And the whispers heard in one of the Apartment rooms in SH2 freaked me out too.
At this point, I think Silent Hill has had enough exploration. I think it’s time to move on to a new sort of series, as this title seems fun and interesting, but looks more akin to some of the other horror games out there than the unique entity that is the Silent Hill franchise.
I really like this gif because Stitch does that little squinty thing that animals do when they’re really happy and relaxed and you can tell that he’s having such a superb time playing that little ukulele
